BC Stats takes confidentiality very seriously. Under the Statistics Act, RSBC 1996, all information provided to BC Stats will be kept confidential, and used only for statistical purposes. We do not release any information that could identify individuals or businesses without their consent. The Statistics Act sets out the mandate for BC Stats, and provides it with powers that are critical to effective survey research. The most important is the ability to protect the confidentiality of survey returns.
Why confidentiality is important?
- Respondent confidence
- Our surveys garner high response rates because individuals and businesses trust BC Stats
- Respondents reply frankly and confidently because they are assured of complete protection
- The Statistics Act operates notwithstanding most provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA)
We are the only organization in British Columbia that can offer the protection of the Statistics Act.
