Why doesn't the population figure for each riding match what BC Stats
provided to the Electoral Boundaries Commission?
BC Stats provided the Electoral Boundaries Commission with a set of 1996
Census population figures for Provincial Electoral Districts (PEDs) based
on block-face data in urban areas and Federal Electoral District Enumeration
Area (FED/EA) data in all other areas. Since block-face boundaries more
closely conform to urban ridings than "coarser" FED/EA boundaries, the use
of this mix provides a more accurate distribution than the use of FED/EAs alone.
However, a full range of census data based on the urban
block-face is not available. For this reason these PED Profiles use only the FED/EA as the basic
unit for aggregation.
This table shows the differences between these two methodologies.
