Reference maps show the location of geographic areas for which data are tabulated and disseminated. The maps display the boundaries, and identifiers, as well as major cultural and physical features such as roads, railways, coastlines, rivers, and lakes. (Click here to view.)
Interactive Atlas The dynamic and highly configurable atlas allows users greater flexibility to explore the regional variations of the wellness data. The downloadable images are more engaging than static images. The Wellness Atlas presents information in a geographical context (Health Service Delivery Areas), revealing spatial variations and patterns across British Columbia. The complete Wellness Atlas of British Columbia can be downloaded from www.geog.uvic.ca/wellness/. We strongly recommend reading the following: How to use the Wellness Atlas A thematic map shows the spatial distribution of one or more specific data themes. The map may be qualitative in nature (e.g., number of liquor store outlets, number of schools by school district, or number and type of regional offices) or qualitative (e.g., percentage population change). Thematic maps present data such as population so that geographic patterns in the data are more easily understood across multiple regions. THematic maps can be produced for a variety of administrative boundaries. (Click here to view.)
Interactive Data and Health Map Browsers BC Stats is providing this test site for interactive, thematic data display. This ARC/IMS web-mapping application will allow users to select a variable from a vast array of socio-economic data. The geographic units used are LHA (Local Health Areas) and HSDA (Health Service Delivery Areas), both analytical boundaries used within the Ministry of Health. This browser will allow clients to perform analysis on "normalized" data across multiple health geographies. (Click here to view.)
Translations and Data Sets BC Stats maintains files for translating various data across administrative regions. These files can be accessed through the BC Stats website directly. Included in the translations section is the Translation Master File (TMF), which can be purchased through BC Stats. Various boundary shapefiles are available upon request.
